SAN ANDREAS, Calif. (AP) -- A deadly and destructive wildfire in Northern California has been fully contained more than three weeks after it broke out.

The serious danger had long passed from the blaze that burned mostly in Calaveras County, but state fire officials on Thursday night declared it 100 percent contained.

The blaze that started in Amador County on Sept. 9 killed two men and destroyed 475 homes.

It had grown to nearly 111 square miles before its progress was stopped.

Another blaze in Lake County that killed four people and destroyed nearly 2,000 structures is 97 percent contained after burning for nearly three weeks.
