CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) -- Jurors are watching a video of Colorado theater shooter James Holmes behaving strangely in a police interview room immediately after his arrest.

Defense attorneys on Wednesday began playing the four-hour video, which shows Holmes playing with staples and scratching at a table hours after he killed 12 people and wounded 70 during a packed midnight movie premiere.

Holmes' attorneys say he was in the grips of a psychotic episode during the July 20, 2012, shooting and the video shows his mental state. Holmes appears to pick at an electrical socket with a staple and plays puppets with paper bags put on his hands to preserve gunshot residue.

He also easily answers an officer's questions about his age and address. Prosecutors say he was legally sane and want him executed.
