Henry deputy on leave following fatal accident
ROANOKE, Va. (AP) -- Virginia State Police say a pedestrian struck and killed by a Henry County deputy's cruiser stepped into the road.
State police spokesman Sgt. Rob Carpentieri tells The Roanoke Times ( http://bit.ly/1clzG88 ) that investigators don't believe Deputy Justin Stone was at fault.
A marked cruiser driven by Stone hit 49-year-old Oliver Chester Rumley on U.S. 220 on Thursday night.
Carpentieri says investigators found that Stone tried to swerve but hit Rumley. The Collinsville resident died from his injuries.
Henry County Sheriff Lane Perry says Stone is on administrative leave during the investigation.
