Judge dismisses charge against Va. Beach woman accused of illegally keeping backyard chickens

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) -- A Virginia Beach woman no longer faces a criminal charge for keeping chickens in her backyard.

A Virginia Beach General District Court judge dismissed a misdemeanor charge against Tracy Gugal-Okroy on Tuesday.

Gugal-Okroy's attorney, Gary Byler, tells The Virginian-Pilot that the judge ruled testimony wasn't sufficient to convict her.

She was accused of violating a city zoning ordinance by having chickens on her suburban property.
