
NORFOLK, Va. (AP) -- Norfolk police have shot and killed a man who struck an officer with his car.
The Virginian-Pilot reports ( http://bit.ly/117lWpD ) the officer struck by the car was taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries that aren't life-threatening.
Police spokeswoman Karen Parker-Chesson says police were called to a bank in the Ghent neighborhood for a report of someone trying to pass a bad check.
She says when police arrived and approached a vehicle in the parking lot, the driver put the car in reverse, accelerated and struck one of the two responding officers. She says the second officer fired at the car.
A photograph taken by the newspaper at the scene shows multiple gunshot holes in a car's windshield.
