Va.'s jobless rate falls slightly in November
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- The Virginia Employment Commission says the state's jobless rate fell slightly to 5.4 percent in November.
The state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate down from 5.6 percent in October and down from 5.7 percent a year ago.
Virginia's unemployment rate had been trending down since joblessness peaked at 7.4 percent from December 2009 until March 2010.
Officials say the labor market contracted in November as the number of those seeking work exceeded the number of those employed.
The Labor Department says the national unemployment rate was 7 percent in November. Rates fell or were unchanged in all 50 U.S. states, evidence that hiring is improving across the country.
