STEVENS POINT, Wis. (AP) -- The central Wisconsin man accused of killing his estranged girlfriend and two of their children in a gasoline-soaked home has entered an insanity plea.
Portage County District Attorney Tom Eagon said 36-year-old Shane Kettner added not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect pleas to three counts of first-degree intentional homicide during a court appearance Monday. He had pleaded not guilty to the charges earlier.
Eagon says the judge will now appoint two doctors to evaluate Kettner. No trial date has been set.
Investigators found the bodies of 30-year-old Christine Gollon, 3-year-old Ashley Kettner and 2-year-old Griffin Kettner on April 30 after breaking into the family's barricaded home in Nelsonville. Gollon's mother had called police worried about her welfare.
