Democrat Vruwink joining Legislature's budget committee, replacing Richards

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Democratic state Rep. Amy Sue Vruwink (VROO-wink) is joining the Legislature's budget committee.

Vruwink's appointment to the Joint Finance Committee was approved by Republican Speaker Robin Vos on July 3 and announced Monday by Democratic Minority Leader Peter Barca.

Vruwink, of Milladore, replaces Rep. Jon Richards, of Milwaukee. Richards is running for attorney general and not returning to the Legislature next year.

Vruwink joins state Rep. Cory Mason, of Racine, as the only Democrats from the state Assembly on the powerful committee that writes the state budget every two years. Republicans hold a 12-4 majority on the panel.

Vruwink has been a member of the Assembly since 2003, representing the 70th Assembly District which includes portions of Wood, Portage, Monroe and Jackson counties.
