AP now screensaver

Windows (4.5 Mb) | Mac OSX (4.3 Mb)

How to install:

Download the appropriate installer from the links above

Double click on the installer file to perform the installation. After installation is complete, your screen saver will appear in the Display Properties control panel as the currently selected screen saver. On the first try you may be asked by your fire wall whether or not to allow the "AP now" application to access the internet. If this happens click "always allow."

How it works:

The screensaver first loads in http://hosted.ap.org/specials/_APnow/APnowLineUp.opml. This file gives the screensaver the list of RSS feeds that it will display. Apnow then cycles through the RSS feeds alternating between the gallery_rss feeds and the headline package rss feeds. The screensaver will display archive photos which are built into the screensaver if one of the following occurs:

  • Any of the .opml, .rss or .jpg files do not load correctly or do not exist
  • a connection to the internet is lost or a photo is taking too long to load
Once the archive photo functionality begins it will display five archive photos in random order then attempt to reconnect to the internet and load the apropriate data.
