2 Alcorn State students fatally shot in Mississippi

PORT GIBSON, Miss. (AP) — A man has been arrested in an off-campus shooting that killed two Alcorn State University students were killed and two others were wounded in an off-campus shooting late Monday.

Mississippi authorities did not release the man's name but said he was arrested in Adams County on an aggravated assault warrant, news outlets reported.

Alcorn officials issued a statement Tuesday saying the shooting in Claiborne County happened at an off-campus event-venue about 13 miles (21 kilometers) north of campus. Authorities told Mississippi news outlets it happened at a place called The Ark.

The campus was locked down as a precaution for several hours.

The dead were identified as James Carr, 22, and Tahir Fitzhugh, 19. Carr was from the Mississippi city of Itta Bena; Authorities said Fitzhugh was from Pennsylvania but they did not say what area of the state he was from.

No details were available Tuesday about what sparked the shooting.
