BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — An officer in Connecticut's largest city is being charged with sexual assault after previously being arrested on domestic violence charges.
Shelton Police said Saturday they charged 29-year-old Steven Figueroa of Shelton with first-degree sexual assault. A spokesman for the Bridgeport Police Department previously confirmed to NBC Connecticut that Figueroa is an officer on the force and was placed on administrative leave.
Shelton Police said they arrested Figueroa on a warrant, stemming from a June 29 incident when he was charged several domestic violence-related charges. In statement posted on Facebook, Shelton Police allege Figueroa sexually assaulted the same victim that night.
Figueroa is scheduled to appear in Derby Superior Court on Monday. He was released on a $75,000 bond. A message was left seeking comment with the law firm representing Figueroa.
