Maine Press Association announces contest winners

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — The Portland Press Herald, The Ellsworth American, York County Coast Star and Maine Sunday Telegram have won top honors in their divisions in the Maine Press Association annual contest. Bangor Daily News, Pine Tree Watch and The Camden Herald won for digital presentation.

The announcements were made Saturday evening at the MPA awards dinner in South Portland. Eric Russell of the Portland Press Herald was the Journalist of the Year; Pine Tree Watch and the Portland Press Herald won first-place awards in their divisions for Freedom of Information.

Earlier, three members were inducted into the MPA Hall of Fame: Stephen Fay, former managing editor of The Ellsworth American; Marian McCue, longtime publisher and former editor of The Forecaster; and the late Christopher Cousins, Statehouse reporter for the Bangor Daily News.
