Former Wichita Teacher Pleads Guilty To Child Porn Charge

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — A former Wichita high school teacher has pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of a child, according to court records.

Shawn Wingfield, 49, pleaded guilty Wednesday and will be sentenced Jan. 11.

Wingfield resigned in July from teaching gifted English and debate at Wichita Northwest High School, less than a week before he was arrested.

The investigation began after a woman reported receiving texts referencing child pornography from Wingfield, who she was dating, The Wichita Eagle reported.

In a court affidavit, Wingfield described himself in the texts as a “condemned hebephile” — a term for adults who are sexually attracted to 11- to 14-year-olds.

He also admitted viewing sexually explicit material of minors and confessed to being attracted to a 13-year-old girl, according to the affidavit.

Investigators found images of naked children and several files that had names suggesting they depicted child sex abuse on electronics seized from Wingfield’s home, the affidavit says.
