2 Wva Corrections Officers Who Died Of Covid-19 Honored

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — The names of two West Virginia corrections officers who died of COVID-19 have been added to a memorial in Charleston.

The Department of Homeland Security placed the names of Cpl. Mark Rustemeyer and Lt. Delmar Dean on its memorial at the state Capitol. Their families also received the department's Freedom Pin during a ceremony Tuesday.

The department maintains memorials for fallen corrections officers and state troopers as well as for military members from West Virginia who have died in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Rustemeyer, 58, died Jan. 2. He had served at the Saint Marys Correctional Center in Pleasants County since 1998.

Dean, 49, died Feb. 13. He had served at the Northern Regional Jail in Marshall County and was a corrections employee for more than two decades.
