WALLKILL, N.Y. (AP) — A 27-year-old man Pennsylvania man who accidentally fired a gun in a crowded Hudson Valley mall has been sentenced to three years on probation and ordered to do 100 hours of community service.
The Times Herald-Record of Middletown reports that Michael Perez-Rodriguez of Forest City, Pa., was sentenced in Wallkill Town Court on Wednesday. He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge in April.
The single shot fired outside an American Eagle store in the Galleria Mall in Wallkill on Nov. 26 hit the floor and ricocheted. A woman and her 12-year-old son suffered minor leg injuries.
Officials said Perez-Rodriguez left the mall with his family but surrendered two days later after police released a mall video.
The gunshot brought on police active-shooter response and evacuation of the mall.
