Editorial: A Broken Record On Income Tax
Tate Reeves is not satisfied with the large income tax cuts the Mississippi Legislature has already enacted.
The Republican governor still wants the income tax completely eliminated, according to his latest budget proposal.
It would be fiscally irresponsible for lawmakers to do his bidding on this.
Although Mississippi presently enjoys a record surplus, it’s not likely to last, since previous tax cuts are still being phased in and an economic downturn is projected.
If the state feels compelled to give some of the surplus back, though, do is as a onetime rebate, as Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann has suggested.
