Parks Worker Dies After Mower Accident In Suburban Denver

ARVADA, Colo. (AP) — A man who worked for the parks department in the suburban Denver town of Arvada died after the mower he was operating overturned into a lake and pinned him underwater.

Authorities say Joe Herrin died at a hospital Wednesday, nearly a week after he was involved in the accident at Birdland Lake in Jack B. Tomlinson Park.

Arvada Mayor Marc Williams said Herrin was a valued member of the Parks Maintenance team, and "these have been painful and sad times for the city.

Police are investigating the accident, and the city will begin an internal assessment to improve workplace safety. No other details about what led to the accident have been released.

Herrin had worked for the maintenance team since 2018.
