No. 21 ULL hosts Coastal Carolina with rankings at stake

While both teams come in unbeaten, Louisiana-Lafayette is trying to preserve a Top 25 ranking. Coastal Carolina is trying to get the attention of poll voters by knocking off a ranked team. Both teams also aim to remain atop their divisions, the Ragin’ Cajuns in the West and Chanticleers in the East.


Coastal Carolina ranks near the top of the Sun Belt in rushing defense but will be tested by a Ragin’ Cajuns offense featuring a pair of running backs -- Elijah Mitchell and Trey Ragas -- who each have 1,000-yard seasons to their name.


Coastal Carolina: QB Grayson McCall was named the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 5 after passing for 322 yards and four TDs, and running for 44 yards, in the Chanticleers’ 52-23 win over Arkansas State.

Louisiana-Lafayette: QB Levi Lewis passed for 290 yards in a victory over Georgia Southern last week, bringing his season total to 723 yards.


This game has been rescheduled twice in recent weeks. It initially was moved up a week after ULL’s game at Appalachian State was postponed because of COVID-19 concerns, then pushed back four days because of Hurricane Delta. ... Coastal Carolina’s offensive line has allowed only one sack this season while the Chanticleers defense has sacked opposing QBs 13 times. ... The Chanticleers have never beaten a team ranked in the AP Top 25. ... Coastal Carolina has scored TDs in all 14 of its red zone possessions. ... Louisiana-Lafayette is 3-0 for the first time since 1988. ... ULL LB Lorenzo McCaskill posted a career-high 14 tackles against Georgia Southern, bringing his tackle total up to 36 ... Under head coach Billy Napier, the Cajuns are 14-6 against Sun Belt opponents, but 6-6 against teams in the East Division.
