Josephine County has a new finance director and a new budget officer.
In the wake of Simon Hare's sudden resignation as the county's contracted budget officer, the county Board of Commissioners on Monday promoted finance manager Ruth Nelson to finance director and budget officer.
"We desperately need somebody in that office that has knowledge and experience," Commissioner Ron Smith said. "I think Ruth is the perfect candidate for that." Read More »
Grants Pass dominated the action Monday at the Southwest Conference girls' golf district tournament, taking a 28-stroke lead into today's final round at Running Y Golf Course in Klamath Falls.
Jaylee Hix led the Cavers with a round of 78, which is 6-over par, on a windy day.
"It was awesome," said Grants Pass coach Donnie Thomason. "We actually played a practice round [on Sunday] and it was even windier, so we were prepared. We had a plan and we played well."

The Josephine County district attorney's office on Monday charged two homeless men with second-degree assault after separate incidents at Kesterson Park and an authorized homeless camping site next to the Grants Pass Police Department.
Jacob Robert Frazho, 30, is accused of hitting a man in the head with a tent pole and punching a woman in the face at Kesterson Park in Grants Pass just after midnight on Friday, according to a probable cause affidavit. Read More »
Two free public discussions are being held this week aimed at bringing about historical awareness and historical justice.
Both programs will focus on the legacy of Alonzo Tucker, a Black man who was lynched in Coos Bay in 1902 — Oregon's only recorded Black lynching victim, — and how his memory has inspired a movement for historical reconciliation.
