LEAVENWORTH, Kan. (AP) — A Leavenworth man who was speeding on a stolen motorcycle when he struck a pedestrian has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter.
Justen Michael McCarter, 37, also pleaded guilty Friday to possession of stolen property, County Attorney Todd Thompson said in a news release.
Prosecutors said McCarter was driving between 80 and 90 mph on March 1, 2020, when he hit Adam Wheeler, who was crossing a Leavenworth street. Wheeler later died of his injuries.
Two misdemeanor charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement. A drug charge in a separate case also was dismissed, according to court records.
Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 19.
