A new Oregon Health Plan housing benefit is helping to prevent some people from falling into homelessness, but state regulations prevent the money from being used to help people who are already homeless.

McMINNVILLE — Top-ranked Crater broke away from Wilsonville with a 24-4 run in the first quarter and rolled to a 90-62 win in a quarterfinal game Wednesday at the Class 5A girls' basketball state tournament at Linfield University.
Sage Winslow and Taylor Young combined for 58 points in the win, which lifts the Comets (26-1) to Friday's semifinal against fourth-ranked Redmond (21-5).

The Josephine County Sheriff's Office, Grants Pass Police Department, U.S. Marshals Service and other agencies carried out a county-wide sweep this month to find sex offenders who are out of compliance with registration requirements, along with people wanted on warrants.
Those wanted on warrants included repeat offenders, violent offenders, and those who fled to avoid prosecution or absconded from justice, the sheriff's office announced Wednesday.

Ashland photojournalist Christopher Briscoe met Olena in her small apartment in the Ukrainian city of Lviv. She led him into her son's bedroom, all his possessions and memorabilia still on the shelves and walls, untouched.
