Senior pitcher Jack Matthew pitched a six-inning complete game as Hidden Valley defeated Yreka, California 6-1 Thursday in an opening-round game of the Stangs Stampede Tournament in Murphy.
Matthew gave up just two hits and one unearned run while striking out eight Miners in getting the win on the mound.
Hidden Valley (3-1) scored single runs in the first, second and third innings before striking for three more in the fourth.

Precisely where the logging site was located and when it was operating is buried somewhere deep in my memory. But I recall it was in a remote part of the Siskiyou National Forest in the spring of 1980.
