North Carolina Man Charged After Girlfriend's Body Found

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina man whose girlfriend was missing for a week has been charged in her death, police said.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Denee Rawls, 21, left her home in north Charlotte on Nov. 22 and did not return, The Charlotte Observer reported. Two days later, her family reported her missing, police said.

On Monday, police found Rawls’ body on a street in east Charlotte. Homicide detectives identified her boyfriend, Nicholas Davis, 21, as a suspect and issued a warrant for his arrest. Police found Davis and arrested him on Tuesday morning.

Davis is charged with murder and is bring held in the Mecklenburg County jail. He is also facing charges of injury to personal property and assault by pointing a gun pending from August 2020. It's not known if he has an attorney.

Rawls is the city’s 90th homicide victim, according to CMPD data.
