2nd South Dakotan dies from crash in Potter County

GETTYSBURG, S.D. (AP) — A second person has died as a result of a two-vehicle crash in Potter County near Gettysburg in north-central South Dakota last month.

The South Dakota Department of Public Safety said Thursday that Mariah LeBeau, 24, of Aberdeen, died at a Sioux Falls hospital June 27. She was injured the crash June 18, about 16 miles west of Gettysburg, on U.S. Highway 212.

The department said LeBeau was driving a car westbound when she lost control as it went around a right-turning curve, crossed the center line and collided with an eastbound pickup. Lebeau’s passenger Joseph Skye, 35, of Rapid City, died at the scene. Neither was wearing a seat belt

The driver of the pickup, a 19-year-old Gettysburg man, was unhurt.
