WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — One person died and three others were injured over the weekend when a car struck a bridge in Warwick, police said.
The preliminary investigation indicated that speed as well as drug or alcohol use were factors and the driver is facing charges, Warwick police said.
The vehicle was headed south just before 4 a.m. Sunday when it left the road and struck the bridge abutment, Warwick police said in a statement.
All four occupants were taken to the hospital and one passenger was pronounced dead at Kent County Memorial Hospital, police said.
The driver, Jacob Pelliccio, 19, of Warwick, faces several charges including first-offense DUI and driving to endanger resulting in death. It could not be determined if he had an attorney who could comment on the allegations.
The victim's name was not made public.
