78-year-old Denver woman dies at cross county ski course

GRANBY, Colo. (AP) — A 78-year-old Denver woman has died after going missing at a cross country ski course northwest of Denver, Grand County officials said.

The woman was last seen Thursday afternoon at the YMCA of the Rockies Snow Mountain Ranch at a time when high winds and blowing snow created blizzard-like conditions, Granby, officials said.

Her family contacted the YMCA after being unable to reach her on Friday. Her car was found at the Nordic Center parking lot and the search began just before 5 p.m.

Searchers found a set of windblown ski tracks leaving a hard-packed area near the YMCA and heading downhill toward the Nordic Center. They followed the tracks and the woman's body was found at about 9:30 p.m. Friday near some small trees.

The woman's name has not been released. The coroner will determine her cause of death.
