Citizen groups say they will petition to change city charter

BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Two Vermont citizens groups say they want to change Burlington's charter because they are unhappy with the city's leaders and the local Democratic Party leadership.

The Burlington Tenants Union and Proposition Zero sent an email Sunday stating their intentions to start a petition to give voters the right to place citywide referendums on the ballot, reported.

Any changes to a Vermont city charter have to be approved by voters and the state Legislature to become law.
