ST. LOUIS (AP) — The temporary leader of the University of Missouri-St. Louis on Thursday was appointed to the job permanently.
The University of Missouri Board of Curators approved Interim Chancellor Kristin Sobolik's appointment unanimously.
University of Missouri System President Mun Choi appointed Sobolik interim chancellor when former Chancellor Thomas George retired in September.
Sobolik previously served as provost and executive vice chancellor at the St. Louis campus.
Sobolik studied biology and anthropology at the University of Iowa and Texas A&M University. A release from the four-campus University of Missouri System says she helped develop the fields of archaeobiology and paleonutrition.
“Following a national search, Kristin Sobolik clearly rose to the top, and we are excited that she will continue to lead UMSL,” Choi said in a statement . “Dr. Sobolik has a track record of supporting student success, growing research, and building connections with St. Louis leaders and alumni. I am confident that she is the right leader for UMSL during this critical time.”
