Alabama Inmate Captured After Leaving Work Detail

STAPLETON, Ala. (AP) — An inmate who escaped from a work detail in southwest Alabama was captured, authorities said Friday.

Jonathan Singleton was arrested in Baldwin County near the Styx River, news outlets reported. Details of how he was caught weren't immediately available.

Singleton was part of a crew doing maintenance at a training center in Stapleton when he walked away Thursday afternoon, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office said.

Authorities say they believe Singleton was aided in his escape by someone who drove him out of the area. Singleton had been awaiting trial on drug-related charges and a charge of receiving stolen property.
