PATERSON, N.J. (AP) — A series of weekend shootings in a northern New Jersey city has left one man dead and six other people wounded, culminating a violent week there that saw at least 13 people shot overall, including another fatality.
Motives for most of the recent shootings in Paterson remain under investigation, though many are believed to be gang-related, authorities said. It's not clear if any of the incidents are connected.
The most recent shooting occurred Sunday night, when Wahneem Combs, 34, was found wounded in a city home, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office. The Paterson resident was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
A shooting earlier Sunday had left an 18-year-old resident wounded, while five people were wounded overall in two separate shootings early Saturday. The victims in the Saturday shootings range in age from 22 to 38.
The other fatal shooting this week occurred Wednesday, when Brian Olivio was killed not far from a city hospital. That shooting also left another 20-year-old Paterson man injured.
