GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. (AP) — A fire in a Massachusetts apartment killed one person and left another critically injured.

Michael Romano was pronounced dead at the scene of the fire Monday night in Great Barrington, according to a statement from the Berkshire District Attorney's Office.

Romano's wife, Susan Romano, 67, is in critical condition at Albany Medical Center in New York, according to the statement.

Romano, 68, was in his wheelchair when firefighters pulled him from the unit, according to his neighbors.
