INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Yellow tulip bulbs are expected to be planted in downtown Indianapolis to beautify the area and remind Marion County residents to complete the 2020 census.
Downtown Indy Inc. says volunteers will plant bulbs Monday in Legacy Garden on Washington Street.
The planting is in conjunction with Count Me Indy, Marion County's Complete Count Campaign for the 2020 Census. Downtown Indy was gifted the tulip bulbs.
The organization says in a release that for every person not counted in the 2020 census, Marion County misses out on $20,000 to $30,000 in federal funding that would otherwise come into the community over the next 10 years.
Count Me Indy is supported by the Indianapolis Department of Metropolitan Development.
