Man rescued from floodwaters east of Sierra Vista

SIERRA VISTA, Ariz (AP) — Sheriff's deputies in Cochise County say they rescued a man whose vehicle was stuck in a running wash east of Sierra Vista.

A sheriff's news release says deputies were called at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday to an area about 12 miles (19 kilometers) east of Sierra Vista. They found several people on the bank trying to figure out how to rescue a man inside a vehicle surrounded by rushing flood waters.

Sheriff's search and rescue volunteers were called to the scene and pulled the man to safety.

With Arizona's monsoon season starting and sporatic heavy rains possible, sheriff's officials are warning drivers not to try to cross flooded washes.
