Man Charged In Shooting Death Of Springfield Man

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — A man has been charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of a Springfield man, the Greene County prosecutor announced Thursday.

Mickal Johnson, 22, was charged in the death of 42-year-old Christopher L. Kuder after the shooting early Wednesday.

Springfield police responding to calls about shots fired found Kuder shot in the chest and he died later at a hospital, officials said.

Johnson was found in the front yard of a nearby home and a witness identified him as the shooter, according to a probable cause statement.

Witnesses told police the shooting occurred after an argument in the street that involved several people, according to the statement.

Johnson allegedly told police he shot Kuder in self-defense, The Springfield News-Leader reported.

Johnson was also charged with armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm, because he has a prior felony conviction.

Johnson is being held in the Greene County Jail. Online court records don't list an attorney for the case.
