Fights prompt shutdown of Main Street bars in St. Charles

ST. CHARLES, Mo. (AP) — Fights both inside and outside of bars along Main Street in St. Charles are generating concerns for police and some residents.

KMOV-TV reports that things got so bad Friday night that police ordered all bars to close. One man, Jayson Conley, told the TV station that he saw a large fight as he was sitting on a patio.

Conley believes bars in St. Charles are more crowded now because of coronavirus-related curfews in nearby St. Louis city and county. St. Charles County has no such curfew.

Police say no shots were fired in the Friday night fights, and no arrests were made. Police are increasing weekend patrols and officers are speaking with bar and restaurant owners to stress the need for safety.
