PATERSON, N.J. (AP) — A shooting on a street in a northern New Jersey community early Friday left one man dead and four others wounded, authorities said.
It wasn't clear what sparked the shooting, which occurred in the area of North Main and Jefferson streets in Paterson, where several shootings have occurred. Authorities also were not sure if the shooter was on foot or in a vehicle when the gunfire erupted.
The Passaic County Prosecutors's office said the victims ranged in age from 19 to 26. All five were taken to hospital, and a 25-year-old man died there a short time later from his injuries. His name has not been released.
The other four men were in stable condition, but further details on their injuries were not disclosed.
