Public helps police find man's body in rural Kent County

SPARTA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A man's body was recovered Tuesday in rural Kent County, a day after police asked for the public's help in finding the homicide victim.

“We want to thank the entire community for their assistance with this investigation,” Grand Rapids police said after the discovery in Sparta Township. “It is the efforts of a community member that led us to its location.”

Investigators believe the body of a Black man in his 60s likely was dropped in a ditch or tall grass on Aug. 20. A suspect in the man's death is in custody.
