CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — State health officials said Friday that COVID-19 vaccine booster shots are now available for all Nevada adults.

Third shots are recommended for those who received initial two-shot Pfizer or Moderna coronavirus vaccines at least six months ago, the state Department of Health and Human Services said, and for people who received the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine at least two months ago.

The announcement added Nevada to a list of states offering boosters to all adults. It comes amid a recent uptick in caseloads, particularly in the Las Vegas and Reno areas.

State health officials report that almost 67% of eligible Nevada residents have received at least one dose of vaccine and 57% are fully vaccinated.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration also has cleared Pfizer and Moderna boosters for anyone 18 or older, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention made the recommendation Friday.

Boosters were previously authorized and recommended by the federal government for those at risk of illness due to age, occupation or institutional setting.

State officials said people can mix-and-match, regardless of which vaccine they had first.

They said some vaccine providers may not stock all COVID-19 vaccines, and that people should ask about available options when scheduling an appointment.
