Child hurt in fall from minibus carrying Amish in upstate NY

KIRKWOOD, N.Y. (AP) — A 5-year-old boy suffered scrapes and bruises when he fell out of a minibus carrying Amish community members in upstate New York on Saturday, police said.

The mishap occurred at about 5 p.m. on Interstate 81 near Kirkwood, New York, state police said.

Police said two minibuses were carrying Amish community members from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania when a 5-year-old riding in the back of one of the buses leaned on an emergency window.

The window opened and the child fell out, police said. The buses turned around met the boy running along the shoulder of the interstate.

The child was taken to a hospital for treatment of lacerations, bumps and bruises. The incident is under investigation.
