Man on trial in slaying of sleeping co-worker in hotel room

VINELAND, N.J. (AP) — A Pennsylvania man is on trial in the shooting death of a sleeping co-worker in a New Jersey hotel room 2½ years ago.

Cumberland County prosecutors allege that 36-year-old Larry John Pulcine Jr. shot 33-year-old Ivan "Scott" Strayer at the Wingate Inn in Vineland, where the two were staying for work, in October 2016.

Assistant Prosecutor Charles Wettstein maintains that circumstantial evidence against Pulcine is overwhelming, although the motive remains a mystery.

Defense attorney Joel Aronow says there's no physical evidence that his client pulled the trigger while acknowledging that his gun was used.

Officials say when the victim found dead in the morning, Pulcine apparently had left the hotel for several hours.

Pulcine has been behind bars since he was indicted in 2017.
