PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Authorities say a 9-year-old girl shot in the head in a north Philadelphia home has died.
Police called to the address just after 11 a.m. Wednesday reported finding the girl with a gunshot wound to the right side of the temple.
She was taken to Temple University Hospital in critical condition and police say she was pronounced dead shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the city's police commissioner, Danielle Outlaw, told reporters at the scene that the shooting was reported by a 12-year-old who was also in the house. Outlaw said a third child was also present and it appeared that no adults were in the home at the time.
Outlaw said it was unclear how the child was shot but two firearms were found in the residence. Police haven't said whether the children are related. The victim's name hasn't yet been released.
