On a per-share basis, the Kingsport, Tennessee-based company said it had net income of $1.94. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to $2.15 per share.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.99 per share.

The specialty chemicals maker posted revenue of $2.36 billion in the period, which fell short of Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $2.37 billion.
