The Stamford, Connecticut-based company said it had net income of 49 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for pretax gains, came to 47 cents per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 46 cents per share.

The maker of lightweight composite materials posted revenue of $456.5 million in the period, also beating Street forecasts. Six analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $456.2 million.

Hexcel expects full-year earnings in the range of $2.02 to $2.18 per share, with revenue in the range of $1.9 billion to $1.98 billion.
