The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 11 cents per share.

The operator of cable TV channels such as TLC and Animal Planet posted revenue of $10.28 billion in the period, surpassing Street forecasts. Seven analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $10.23 billion.

For the year, the company reported a loss of $3.13 billion, or $1.28 per share. Revenue was reported as $41.32 billion.
