The annual Kids Dash on Saturday made getting hundreds of children to put down their phones and run laps look like child's play.

Five North Medford players were named to the first team and the Black Tornado's Chris Campbell was picked as Coach of the Year in the All-Southwest Conference softball awards, which were announced this week.

"It's always an honor to be recognized by your peers," Campbell said. "This is a great league for softball and we have some great coaches.

"It was kind of a shock. But it is greatly appreciated."

Grants Pass Police Department

A 30-year-old man was arrested at 9:42 a.m. Friday near Caveman Bridge after he allegedly threatened a nearby business owner with a rock after the business owner objected to a mess the man made on the sidewalk with a pizza. The suspect, 30-year-old Jonathan D. Mahoney, spent the weekend in jail and on Monday was arraigned on a felony charge of unlawful use of a weapon.

Country music star Scotty McCreery is bringing his chart-topping hits and signature charm to Jackson County this fall.

He is set to perform on Sept. 21 at the outdoor Bi-Mart Amphitheater at the Jackson County Expo in Central Point.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. with the concert starting at 7 p.m.
