CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — Tylan Pope scored 24 points as Texas State beat Ohio 74-65 on Sunday night in the fifth-place game at the Myrtle Beach Invitational.
Pope added 10 rebounds for the Bobcats (4-3). Christian Turner scored 13 points while going 5 of 9 and 3 of 4 from the free-throw line and added six rebounds. Kaden Gumbs shot 5 of 13 from the field to finish with 12 points.
AJ Clayton led the Bobcats (2-5) in scoring, finishing with 18 points. Aidan Hadaway added 13 points, two steals and two blocks for Ohio. Jackson Paveletzke also had 12 points and two steals.
Texas State took the lead with 19:44 remaining in the first half and did not relinquish it. Pope led his team in scoring with 13 points in the first half to help put them ahead 35-31 at the break. Texas State outscored Ohio in the second half by five points, with Drue Drinnon scoring a team-high 11 points after intermission.
