The Hong Kong-based company said it had profit of $2.59 per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains, were $2.15 per share.

The online retailer posted revenue of $33.7 billion in the period.

Alibaba shares have increased 17% since the beginning of the year. The stock has climbed 8% in the last 12 months.
