JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Jacobian Morgan threw for three touchdowns and ran for a fourth as Jackson State maintained the top spot in the Southwestern Athletic Conference standings with a 41-3 rout of Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday.
The Tigers (7-2) are now 5-0 in SWAC play, with a showdown coming in two weeks at second-place Alabama State.
The Golden Lions (3-6, 2-3) took the opening kick and drove to the Jackson State 18, where Trey Glymph booted a 28-yard field goal for their only points of the game. The Tigers needed just four plays to go 61 yards and go-ahead when Morgan hit Ja'Naylon Dupree from 19-yards out.
Morgan, who ran 3 yards for a first-quarter touchdown, found Marvin Landy for a 22-yard touchdown with 35 seconds left in the first half, and after an Arkansas-Pine Bluff turnover Gerardo Baeza added a 36-yard field goal as time expired for a 31-3 halftime lead.
Morgan finished 14 of 22 for 187 yards and three touchdowns with an interception. Irv Mulligan had 19 carries for 141 yards and a touchdown and Dupree had three catches for 57 yards and two touchdowns.
Mekhi Hagens was 15 of 32 passing for 150 yards with an interception and carried 13 times for another 34 for UAPB.
