On a per-share basis, the Hartford, Connecticut-based company said it had profit of $2.43. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to $6.53 per share.

The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $6.61 per share.

The asset management company posted revenue of $224.4 million in the period. Its adjusted revenue was $203 million.
