On a per-share basis, the Louisville, Kentucky-based company said it had profit of 56 cents.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 42 cents per share.

The company posted revenue of $964 million in the period, missing Street forecasts. Seven analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.03 billion.

For the year, the company reported profit of $1.02 billion, or $2.14 per share. Revenue was reported as $4.18 billion.

Brown-Forman B shares have decreased 20% since the beginning of the year, while the S&P's 500 index has climbed 11%. The stock has dropped 27% in the last 12 months.
